A Magic Mom & Her Mandalas

Fernwood_2 I've been busy this weekend setting up a website for my friend Stacy. She's been designing mandalas, and they are pretty... fantastic. Drop by A Magic Mom & Her Mandalas.

And while we're on the subject of websites, LeavingFundamentalism.org has been updated - mainly to tidy things up, but also to add Richard Gillingham's review of Marcus J Borg's Reading the Bible Again for the First Time.

The Horror of It All

Frankenstein_created_woman Anyone with an interest in film, or Hammer horror in particular, can go visit Albion magazine to read my feature-length article The Horror of It All: The Dynamics of Class and Power in the Hammer Gothics.

And don't forget to keep visiting my new blog, RIP: A Blog for Dead Stars. I'm updating it about once a week now with obits of the rich, famous, struggling and not-so-famous, mainly from film and the arts. There'll be an update later today, with several interesting characters to add to the roll of the dear departed.

This is not me

Only_gay_in_the_village_1Really, this is not me. I was being ironic by putting it in my post last week.

British readers will have recognized the character as Dafydd, "the only gay in the village", from the BBC comedy Little Britain. It wasn't until an American friend alerted me last night to the potential for confusion that I decided I ought to clarify.

For those who are familiar with Little Britain, have a read of this excerpt from The Independent. As a one-time fan of the series, it is with regret that I have to admit that Mr Hari's full article was, in general, true.

Second Man: Yeah.
(Whistles)
First Man: 'Arold's 'is name.
Second Man: Oh.
First Man: 'Arold Pinter.
Second Man: Oh.

Second Man: My digestive's soggy, too.

Anthony Gormley's 'Another Place'

Statue1_3Visiting Anthony Gormley's 'Another Place' at Crosby beach in Liverpool was an interesting experience. The installation consists of 100 statues spread out equally across the sands. They're all the same, but different. From a distance you have a hard time working out which are real people and which are sculptures. The tide comes in regularly and covers them.

The BBC reports that the statues are due to be moved and shipped to the US. It would be great for the city to have them around for the Capital of Culture in 2008.
